Today is my favorite, happiest, most sparkly day of the year! Today is our second wedding anniversary.
It was fun to look back at what I wrote on our anniversary last year (also one of my very first posts). Our first and second years were very different in superficial ways, but at the same time, so much about our relationship has remained the same since the very beginning. We spent our first year of marriage in constant motion, living in three different cities and plowing through a graduation and new jobs. This year, on the other hand, has been spent firmly planted in one apartment, getting into solid routines, creating a mission statement, developing friendships, and establishing family traditions. Of course, we also did a lot of traveling, but at least we were always able to come back to the same place together. At the same time, our commitment to each other, love of hosting in our home, and common vision for our family and future haven’t changed a bit. We’ve just had another year of practice. 🙂
I’m so thankful today, as I am every day, that God led me to such a wonderful man. His kindness, integrity, humor, depth, and love never stop. He is my biggest cheerleader, favorite confidante, and best teammate. Sometimes I still think, “I can’t believe I never get sick of being around this guy after all this time!” But it’s really more than that. I just have more and more respect and love for him all the time. I love that we are establishing a little bit of history at this point, and that has helped me appreciate new dimensions of his personality. I think that if you marry a genuinely good human, you only become more and more thankful for him over time. I have always been sure, but never more so, that marrying Will was the easiest and best decision I ever made.
Happy anniversary, honey! We don’t have any fancy plans tonight except to go to our small group, but I actually think that’s a very fitting way to celebrate this one.
