Today’s blog-browsing soundtrack can be found here.
Welcome to the home tour segment of this blog! Today I start sharing the rest of the shots the lovely Abby Grace took of our home for our Southern Newlywed feature. I’ll try to share where things are from, but if you want to know about something, just ask me in the comments!
The pillow is Kate Spade and the rest of the bedding is Pottery Barn.
Just to state the obvious, my dream of having a bold, dark, navy blue bedroom has come to life! The weird thing is that it looks totally different colors in different lights and different photos. It is for that very reason that picking a navy color to put all over the walls that you’ll want to live in can be tricky. Ours is actually deeper and more purple than it looks in this photo, and we love it. Life is too short not to take some interior design risks. Live colorfully, amiright?
Did you know that blue is the best paint color for sleep and rest? I did, because I saw it on the Today Show. Anyway, I must have spent days looking at blue shades of paint and googling blogs with home tours to see what it actually looked like. I considered Benjamin Moore’s Symphony Blue and Bold Blue before we settled on Admiral Blue.
These glam nightstands are from One Kings Lane (a great source). The lamps are found in the trusty aisles of HomeGoods. The little floral accents I’ve literally had since high school when I bought them in the SMU bookstore while visiting my brother. My taste has been largely consistent throughout my life, and I thank my preppy mom and younger self for that all the time.
We really love this little reading corner. Will can read in this chair while I blog at my desk! The All in Good Taste book was a gift from my friend Elizabeth, and The Dogist was a Christmas gift from my mom and is still the best Instagram account there is. The painting above the chair (that you have to look at the other photos to see) is Oliver Gal’s Love Force Field. The accent table is another HomeGoods find that I haggled over because it didn’t have a price tag.
Above our dresser (which is not pictured, but is a basic white IKEA piece) we have this gold shelf, which we absolutely love now but was a comically stressful ordeal to find a home for. This is what happens when you register boldly for very specific wedding gifts without knowing where you’ll live when you unpack them.
Anyway, we tried the shelf everywhere, had many debates about whether it would be weird for guests if it was hanging over their heads as they slept, and then realized it looked perfect here.
I decided to bring in gold, kelly green, turquoise, and hot pink accents with the navy walls and tried to pull them in with whatever I could find. My friend Danielle read my mind and got us a beautiful glass paperweight in the perfect shade of turquoise that is on my desk. The storage boxes (from The Container Store) really bring some of that hot pink in without being too obnoxious, as they so low to the ground. The desk is from Ballard Designs and actually matches our coffee table. I love having my own little space to pay bills, write notes, and blog. (I would say check my gmail but I never do that anymore. I need to put it on my goal list.) I also love this one, but it would have been too matchy-matchy with the nightstands.
You might recognize the photo from my Seaside post, and the other desk pooky-doos are from West Elm, Pier One, and the Design Darling boutique. The doodle is sold out, but you can find similar here.
And there you have it! Welcome to our home!
P.S. Pippa says the walls usually look more like this:
