This weekend really snuck up on me, because we’re headed out of town early for an extended Thanksgiving in Missouri! But, on the other hand, Thanksgiving is so early this year that we still have an entire week of November left by the time we get back. That’s great with me, because it extends the official Christmas season to give me an extra week to get my shopping, decorating, and card-sending done. At any rate, we have made the most of the limited November time we’re here, and we had a lovely week. Here are the highlights!

New Breakfast Table!
This has been on our shopping list since we moved in in February: a breakfast table for our kitchen! We have our dining room all set up, and though initially my thought was that we’d rather have a fully open floor plan, it has been perfect to have a dining room with a door we can baby gate after we stock up all our breakables in there. But, we still eat in our kitchen more, especially when we’re eating with Miss V. So we needed a breakfast table. Would you believe we were using a tiny outdoor IKEA table from our apartment balcony until this week?
We’ve been really happy with this one from Target, and we ordered some darling chairs to go with it that we just need to set up. I’m hoping we can all (four!) sit around this together for casual kid-friendly meals.

Our Family Shopping Trip in Review
Last Saturday, we did something I haven’t done in AGES. We devoted most of a Saturday to just roaming the mall looking for new winter clothes. We went to a huge indoor outlet mall in Virginia that had great deals, and we needed some winter maternity clothes for me as well as basically an entirely new wardrobe for Victoria for winter in her new size. I’m happy to report that we were successful, and in a lot of ways, I think it was easier than online shopping, since we were able to get everything we’ll need through the cold months in one day. Honestly I forgot how tiring hitting the pavement for a real shopping trip is, but it was super fun! We started the day with pumpkin pancakes, installed Victoria’s new car seat, hit the mall, had lunch at Chuy’s, shopped until about 5:00pm, and made it home to put her to bed and have a little date night to watch the Crown. It’s the little things in life.

First Snow!
This was so random, but we had our first real snow of the season yesterday, November 15th! It was so early, and it was legit! Big snowflakes were sticking to our yard when we woke up, and by the time it was time to go to Moms’ Group, I was thinking we would have to cancel, but it turned out not to slow us down at all. All in all it was just pretty and a nice kick off to the winter season.

Friendsgiving 2018
We had the best Friendsgiving on Thursday night after the aforementioned rain turned to snow. This is at least our third Friendsgiving in DC the Thursday before Thanksgiving, and I’m so grateful for this tradition! Our friends Ben and Leslie hosted in their new home this year, and it was so cozy in there already it felt like they’d lived there a long time! Victoria and I made an apple and a pumpkin pie, and it was fun to flex our pie-making muscle since I’m usually a cake and cookies gal. EVERYTHING WAS SO DELICIOUS OMG. I love Friendsgiving.

Prince Charles’s Birthday Photos
And on a fun note, who loved these 70th birthday photos for Prince Charles by Chris Jackson? It’s fun to see him finally in the spotlight. But also, does anyone even believe Wills and Harry are brothers? I never get over how little they look alike. Or how much William looks like Charles!
