The Buckhorn Inn (see below)
Happy Friday, y’all! It has been a weird week around here, with our vacation going through Monday and the weather going from spring to snow in a hot minute. Friday really snuck up on me, but I’m not complaining! Welcome to my inaugural Friday Favorites, where I round up my favorite news about our week.

My New Toy!
Ta-da! I am the proud owner of a Canon DSLR! This is so life-changing, because I have known for a while that a good camera was what I was really missing in life. But seriously. My mom was never without her camera when I was growing up, and if you knew me before 2012 you know that I have always been obsessed with taking pictures too. Recently I’ve been so frustrated that my point-and-shoot is so outdated, and my iPhone just doesn’t satisfy that photography urge. Enter this little lady to help me document our lives and give me a new hobby at the same time!
She was my first anniversary gift from Will as we were heading out for our ski trip. We wanted to get down the road a piece on Friday so that we could take full advantage of our three days on the slopes. In the midst of our usual last-minute excited flutter of packing, Will said I should open my anniversary gift so that I could take it with me on the trip. It was a stretch on the “paper” theme, but I’ll take it! (He says photos are printed on paper.) I barely knew how to turn it on at first, but I am really excited to learn how to use it!

Before we got to Snowshoe itself, we had reservations at the Buckhorn Inn (the beauty above), a bed and breakfast in rural western Virginia, just before we got to the mountains. It’s really in the middle of nowhere, and I would be lying if I said I didn’t consider the possibility of it being the setting for a horror film, but it turned out to be so incredibly cute.
The Inn was built in 1811 and had the sweetest wraparound porch for stargazing. We woke up Saturday morning to a roaring fire in the dining room (with original wood paneling) and the most delicious homemade breakfast made by the family who live there. The owner, Garlan, sat and chatted with us for a long time, and it was so interesting to get a glimpse into rural Virginia life.
I’ll write about Snowshoe itself soon, but I felt like this cozy place deserved a shout-out all its own.

A big highlight of my week was going to Arena Stage to check The City of Conversation off my list of goals for March, and it was just so nice to be in the theater. When I lived in New York I was seeing about four shows a week, and I miss that a lot. Now that things have calmed down a bit around here, I am really excited to be more intentional about taking advantage of all the great theater DC has to offer. This show was beautifully acted. It was also really fun for a DC newbie, as it was set in a Georgetown living room and centered around the political discussions that happened there over the course of thirty years. I am beginning to embrace the rich political culture here and even started to feel a twinge of DC pride!

I have been on a big productivity kick lately, just trying to find ways to get more done and stay more focused throughout my day. I’ve read a couple helpful books, but I was having a hard time implementing the strategies. Well, as luck would have it, Jess had the answer for me one day on her blog! I got the Productivity Planner this week, and it’s incredible. So practical and tangible.

Tuckernuck Store Opening?

Spring into action, indeed! This really hasn’t happened yet, but that’s the point. This week it’s March 2016, so where is our Georgetown Tuckernuck storefront?? I might be just a teensy bit impatient.
