Tis the season! If you are lucky enough to be heading to the Derby (or Steeplechase or Foxfields or the Preakness or the Belmont Stakes) soon, now is the time to order the missing pieces of your Derby Day wardrobe! (This is important enough to merit baby’s first product collage.) If you are watching it at home, like us, the Derby has planned your viewing party for you here.
Dresses: Honestly, I’m not thrilled with Lilly’s patterns at the moment, but La Vie Loca is a huge exception. LOVE it. Otherwise, if you want to go crazy with colorful accessories, a little white dress is always a good way to go.
Hats: It’s always hard to find good hats and fascinators online, isn’t it? But look! Vineyard Vines has like three different fascinators this year! Tuckernuck also has some great sunhat options (that you can actually wear for other occasions), including this packable hat that I’ve been eyeing since last spring. There’s also this old-school company, the Proper Topper, offering plenty of options and a storefront in Dupont if you’re in DC! Nordstrom also has a small selection for the Derby, Amazon has some super cheap options, and if you’re looking to really go all out, this lady has you covered.
Shoes: If you’re wondering why I included Wellies, then lucky you, you haven’t been to a rainy (or muddy) race day. Otherwise, in the field, the dressiest I go is wedges, due to sinking issues and the fact that you’re standing on your feet all day. But if you can rock some normal heels, go for it!
Clutches: I love a ladylike clutch with a sundress and hat, and if you’re bringing tailgating supplies, just put it in a bigger tote! Mark & Graham has an old-fashioned twist on the monogram clutch, and it screams Derby!
Jewelry: I keep this simple with the hat, especially if you’re wearing a bright dress, but I love Kiel James Patrick’s new stuff. I have the Serena Fairchild, but love this Breakers Ballroom piece. Or keep it even simpler with just a sweet bracelet.
Is anyone going to the races this year? Any other outfit ideas?
