Hello, Georgetown, I love you.
Happy Fri-yay everyone! I’m in an annoyingly good mood, as we are Greenbrier-bound today! It has been a really celebratory and unusual week around here! On Monday we took dinner to friends with a new baby and played hooky from our usual dinner plans to eat outside at the Mexican restaurant we went to the night we moved into our apartment. It was so nice to be outside, watch all the cute dogs walk by, and revel in the sun setting so late. Wednesday morning was our engage-versary, and though it was too cloudy and rainy for a sunrise, we still celebrated with pancakes and reminiscing. 🙂 I’ve also been celebrating the fact that I actually got our guest and master closets totally cleaned out and seasonal clothes swapped last weekend! I donated a ton of stuff we haven’t been using, and both closets have so much more space now. I can actually find the stuff we need! Here’s what else went down this week.

Celebrating Gus‘s Life
If you saw my Instagram, you know we said goodbye to a furry family member this week. We adopted him after I begged my parents for a cat in the sixth grade, and he had a very long (17-year) life. He was orange and white, just like me. He lived on his turf, my parents’ neighborhood, his whole life, and he was a very tough guy, full of personality. I know we’ll all miss his antics and his patrols around the neighborhood, jumping up on people’s windowsills just to check on everyone. We know it was his time to go, so it’s ok, just a good time to celebrate Gus’s feisty life. We love you, Gus!

Dinner at Magnolia’s with Friends!
Ryan giving Will some golf pointers
On a happier note, we went on the most fun double date with our friends Ryan and Erin last Friday. We just love them, and they have had a super busy spring, so it was time to catch up! We also killed several bird’s with one stone since the place we went to was in Old Town Alexandria. Remember how long I’ve been wanting to go there? It did not disappoint. So adorable it is giving Georgetown a run for its money! Anyway, the restaurant made us all feel like we had just taken a quick trip to Charleston, which is apropos, since that’s where Erin is this week! P.S. Magnolia’s cocktails in the upstairs palm lounge=divine.

The Flick at Signature Theatre
Photo via
I have just been crushing my April goals this week, thanks in part to my sweet husband. He read my April goals post, asked me if I was free on Saturday, and got us tickets to The Flick! First of all, speaking of neighborhoods we love to hang out in in DC: we love this neighborhood in Shirlington. Secondly, Signature Theatre gave us a fabulous theater-going experience. It is a Tony-award-winning regional theater in a very modern complex with several small, black box and arena-style stages. The show was totally different than anything I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot of theater), just very realistic and in real-time for the majority of the first act. It was fodder for some great conversations about life, so I say job well done. We’ll be back!

Is anyone else a planner nerd? I have been a planner nerd my entire life, and it brings me so much joy to continue that tradition with this gorgeous new planner. I tried keeping my calendar in my computer for a hot second and hated it. Yes, I have to use white out when my schedule changes. Yes, I have to carry it around. But I’m old-school, and I love holding an actual planner in my hands. Plus, look at how lovely this one is! Admittedly, I think I like the inside pages of Emily Ley’s Simplified Planner maybe slightly better, but my old planner runs out in June, and we have things going on the calendar right and left for summer and fall, so I needed that baby ASAP! Regardless, the Day Designer is gorgeous, has a very similar inside layout, came in the cutest mint box, is extremely high quality, and will totally bring me all the planning joy.

Rent the Runway Experience
And finally, I picked up my dress at Rent the Runway Georgetown last night, and wow is this place gorgy. It looks like a regular, beautifully decorated boutique (downstairs is the main floor), and was a delight to browse in. The only thing I would say is that I recommend you order your gowns in your size and have them sent there before you go, because it isn’t a warehouse. There isn’t a huge selection like there is on the website, and they may not have your size in-store. Also, the wait for a dressing room took a while on a Thursday night (lots of cute Georgetown undergrads making me miss my college days). But other than that, I loved it! There’s a celebratory buzz about everyone trying on gowns for big events, and this felt like playing hooky from my normal week to go to a quick Thursday night party. I tried on several things but ended up walking out with the one I ordered. The reviews were right, it’s “short” for a full-length gown, which means it fits my short self perfectly. Can’t wait to wear it tomorrow night!
Stay tuned for Greenbrier photos next week!
